Celebrate Rural
Land Protection
CLC's
annual Country Barbecue has become the known to many as
the official start of summer in Columbia county.
The "Unshad" Country Barbecue will be held on Sunday, May
25th at
Kinderhook Farm,
in Ghent, NY (rain or shine).
Why
"Unshad"?
This spring, NYS
Department of Environmental Conservation instituted
emergency shad fishing regulations, in hopes of
reversing
a serious decline in the Hudson River’s shad
population.
In
recent years, the number of adult shad harvested from
the Hudson has declined by 70 %.
Because
of this, the Columbia Land Conservancy has chosen not to
serve shad, as in years past, to help the shad fisheries
once again thrive in the Hudson Valley.
Rest assured, the event will still have lots of great
food and plenty to do for all ages.
