Columbia Land Conservancy Welcomes Education Coordinator

The Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) is pleased to announce that Jennifer Brinker has joined the staff as the full-time Education Coordinator.  CLC’s place-based education programs have proven to be extremely popular with Columbia County school children and adults.  In 2005 more than 4,000 people participated in these hands-on opportunities to explore Columbia County ’s natural resources.

“Giving people the chance to re-connect with nature, and learn about the traditional uses of our County’s fields and forests is an important part of the Conservancy’s mission,” noted Charlie Laing , CLC’s Director of Community Programs.  “We are very pleased to have someone with Jenny’s educational skills and passion for the rural landscape join our team.”

As Education Coordinator, Jenny will not only lead programs for the general public herself, but also work with co-educators to develop diverse programs that will meet the needs of local schools, youth groups and enrichment programs.

“My educational philosophy is to teach the head, hand and heart. My programs will concentrate on the discovery of one’s own voice, the voices of other species and the voice of the land and the water,” stated Ms. Brinker.  “With a dozen public conservation areas throughout the county to use as outdoor classrooms, the people of Columbia County have a tremendous resource available to them in their backyards.  I am really looking forward to making connections with the public over the summer on walks and canoe trips, and working with the schools this fall,” Brinker commented.

Jenny comes to the Conservancy with nine years of experience working with children and adults in a variety of educational settings.  She holds a Masters in Environmental Education from Lesley University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont .

The Conservancy’s education programs are offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of its members, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program, the Mellam Family Foundation, and the T. Backer Foundation.

If you would like to schedule a program for your school or group send Jenny an email or call her at (518) 392-5252, ext. 210. To learn about upcoming programs for the public, click here.
