Farm
protected by a CLC conservation easement |
Over the past 20 years, the Columbia Land Conservancy
has helped to protect 17,569 acres of woodlands, fields,
and working landscapes with 167 conservation
easements. We are now discussing the protection of an
additional 11,000 acres with 74 new landowners.
During
this same 20-year period, we have also assisted in the
establishment of 5,335 acres of
public lands
in the
county. Recognizing that less than 4% of Columbia
County's land is open to the public, the Conservancy continues to assist towns and landowners with
the establishment of additional public lands.
As
part of its farmland
protection
efforts, CLC has helped to
secure more than $5 million in state and private
funding, ensuring the protection of approximately 4,830
acres of working farmland.
In
addition, CLC's educator works with
schools, daycare centers, after school programs, youth groups,
continuing education programs, and the general public to
provide free, hands-on, interactive learning experiences
in an outdoor setting. In 2005, CLC provided free education
programs
to more than 4,000 children and adults on publicly accessible lands around the
county.
