Public Conservation Area Stewardship

CLC manages each of its public conservation areas to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the county’s rural landscapes and unique natural areas.  The Conservancy sees its public conservation areas as "outdoor classrooms", and manages them to balance the protection of habitat with public recreation, education, and enjoyment.

Volunteers are an important part of our public conservation area land stewardship program, as they help CLC monitor and maintain conservation area trails both as site stewards and during volunteer workdays.  Click here to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Conservation Easement Stewardship

As the holders of more than 160 conservation easements, CLC has a responsibility to ensure that the goals of each conservation easement are respected in perpetuity.

In addition to annual monitoring of the conservation easements, CLC staff are available to answer landowner's questions about their properties including questions about wildlife management, controlling exotic species to enhance ecosystem biodiversity, and working landscape activities such as forest management.
